Melissa McGill is an abstract painter exploring the natural world through color and texture.

Melissa McGill, whose home and studio are based in Las Vegas, Nevada, creates abstract paintings on raw canvas and paper. Working intuitively, and incorporating monotype and soak stain techniques, McGill explores color and texture in her abstract works, with an eye toward mid century modern design. Melissa is always exploring new techniques to express her experiences and emotional response to the world around her.

These are personal landscapes on raw canvas and paper,  influenced by the sedimentary formations of The Great Basin and the marks left behind by a millennia of water which is no longer there. The painting process mimics nature through layers created by pouring, scraping, printing and mark making.

Acrylic medium washes stain the canvas, creating depth as the layers build. Melissa’s work is informed by a powerful curiosity, along with a passion for color, and influenced by the Arroyo's of the desert, and the rivers and creeks of the Pacific Northwest.
