Wild

“Perfect Yet Vulnerable - Wild” 40 x 30” on raw linen.

"I thought of the wilderness we had left behind us, open to the sea and sky, joyous in its plenitude and simplicity, perfect yet vulnerable unaware of what is coming , defended by nothing, guarded by no one."

Edward Abbey - Beyond The Wall: Essays From The Outside

The Wild series is an effort to capture the textures and colors of wild land and how it reminds me of the wildness we hold back. All of the daily efforts we make in the name of separating ourselves from nature, our homes; our farms; our electrical grids. An unguarded simplicity of purpose without the influence of opinion or culture is a sort of wildness. In a world built on social capital and public opinion our wildness gets chipped at and sanded down. Simply making an effort to connect requires some smoothing of the edges, some conformities. Yet we are always still part of nature. part of the Wild.

“That Wild Country - Wild” acrylic on 40” x 30” raw linen in a natural maple frame.

"Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed...We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in."

Wallace Stegner - The Sound Of Mountain Water
