Rainshadow No 2

$550.00

Rainshadow No 2 sets a broad field of warm terracotta against a heavily textured black form below it. The two masses meet along an irregular, broken boundary, where narrow openings of pale paper separate their edges. Within the black field, granular ink, linear impressions, and isolated dark marks create a complex transferred surface, contrasting with the comparatively dense and continuous color above. The difference between these two kinds of imprint gives the composition its tension and makes the mechanics of the monotype process particularly visible.

The Rainshadow series takes its name from the Mojave Desert’s position in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada, Tehachapi, San Gabriel, and San Bernardino mountain ranges.

Oil-based printing ink on Canson Mi-Teintes paper · 19.8 × 25.2 in. · Unique monotype
