Rainshadow No 5
Rainshadow No 5 concentrates overlapping fields of crimson, deep red, and pale rose against the dark brown of the paper. The forms stack and intersect near the center of the composition, shifting from dense blocks of color to finely broken, granular passages where the surface beneath becomes visible. Differences in pressure and ink transfer create a weathered, irregular texture, giving the clustered forms a sense of mass while preserving the physical traces of the monotype process.
The Rainshadow series takes its name from the rain-shadow conditions of the Mojave Desert, formed by the surrounding mountain ranges.
Oil-based printing ink on Canson Mi-Teintes paper · 19.8 × 25.2 in. · Unique monotype
