Threshold centers on a luminous opening held between dense fields of deep violet, burgundy, and brown. The surrounding forms curve inward, narrowing the passage in places while leaving it open from top to bottom. Cooler blue-gray and pale mineral tones gather along the upper edge, while turquoise, pink, and muted yellow appear in smaller passages around the perimeter. The contrast between the weight of the surrounding color and the uninterrupted light of the opening gives the composition a sense of passage—a space poised between one condition and another.
